Video walls continue to transform the ways we do business and live our lives. There are so many opportunities when we interact with visual content.
Think about waiting in line at your favorite fast food drive-thru and having a chance to view the menu offerings in advance. Or catching the score of your favorite baseball team at a glance. And seeing if your flight is delayed while you are waiting in the airport.
We see video walls in public places such as convention centers, stadiums, and airports, where the eyes of people in those venues are automatically drawn to the message being prominently displayed. These videos display advertisements, announcements, and (occasionally in sports arenas) the occasional marriage proposal!
The popularity of the video wall is such that its use has expanded far beyond the airport or stadium. Businesses increasingly find many uses for these visual displays. From the quick service restaurant to a school display, you are seeing video walls pop up almost everywhere. In a previous blog, we talked about some of the industries that use video walls – such as education, healthcare, and the legal field. Today let’s look at several other industries and see how video walls can make an impact.
4 Industries Using Video Walls
Banks
Coming on the heels of Covid lockdowns and more in-person banking, the in-person experience that customers seek should be seamless. Digital signage or video walls can enhance the customer experience. It’s a great way to provide financial education, which could be a posting of current rates, whether that is posting of current interest rates, like savings, taxes, investment advice, and much more. Customers feel knowledgeable about money, which can help build more loyalty and trust in the bank.
BizTech Magazine cites the advantages of video signage in banks as including:
- The ability to communicate in real-time, conveying their strengths and values with up-to-date information
- Improved customer and employee engagement, giving customers an area of focus while they are waiting in line, which can serve also to make the wait time seem shorter
- Providing information that the customer might not have otherwise known
- A chance to strengthen the bank’s brand – talking about community activities (such as sponsoring a local team or charity)
- A more lively customer experience
- The chance to interest customers in additional bank services through carefully displayed messages
- Reduced costs – eliminating the need for some flyers, brochures, and other printed material
- A tech-savvy bank may appeal more to a younger generation
The magazine estimates that 75 percent of banks are currently using interactive displays in one form or another.
Security
Another industry using video walls is the security industry. As technology continues to improve and evolve, there are new ways for facilities to protect themselves from threats and interruptions. Video walls provide real-time situational awareness, arguably the main objective of any control room. The walls provide a high-resolution display of critical information so that everyone can see this information at the same time, as opposed to traditional monitors which had been the way it was done previously. A video wall shows multiple data sources across a full display. This setup allows quicker response. All are significant benefits in the security industry.
Public Transportation
A State Tech Magazine article highlights uses for video walls that go beyond what might be top of mind, such as airports and train stations announcing time changes. The Memphis Police Department, for example, was reported as having access to 2000 cameras in 600 different locations, enabling them to monitor for crime areas, as well as for traffic problems and improved ways for traffic management. In Boston, the city has deployed traffic signals timed from a central computer at 593 locations with a series of 550 cameras deployed at intersections that report back to the city’s Traffic Management Center to monitor traffic flow. The Center relies upon a large video wall to track the multiple camera feeds.
Schools
And, as mentioned in our previous blog corporate uses for video walls continue to increase. The same holds true for schools and sporting organizations, where dynamic scoreboards can make all the difference. Today’s digital dynamic scoreboards are fast becoming a favorite among schools and sports teams. The modern, dynamic scoreboard greatly enhances the experience at the game (whether indoors or outdoors) with the addition of real-time information, eye-catching graphics, and a number of interactive features.
Digital sign manufacturer Watchfire, a Pulse Technology partner, offers this advice for schools and sporting organizations: ”Bench your old scoreboard and fire up players, fans, and sponsors with a digital scoreboard or video display.”
You can see examples of video walls from several Pulse partners, Sharp and Watchfire, and learn how this technology can work for your particular industry.
Benefits of Video Walls
In general, some of the benefits of video walls include:
- greater visual precision
- the ability to display text
- videos and other media with crystal-clear images
- a high storage capacity
- the ability to be interactive and dynamic but require less human intervention
